The emphasis on corporate sustainability has created a sizable challenge for Telecom executives who must balance expectations for more eco-friendly business practices with the pressures of an increasingly competitive marketplace. Efforts across the industry to develop greener products and formalized programs that factor environmental considerations into buying decisions are exciting steps in the right direction.
But ecology management is about more than just how a piece of Telecom equipment is manufactured or purchased, which is why these types of initiatives only address half of the green equation.
No matter how energy efficient a piece of Telecom equipment is when it’s manufactured, after a period of time in-service or sitting in wait as excess inventory, the asset will inevitably be decommissioned.
